Manager, Strategy & Business Development - Logistics

SUMMARY
Originates, develops and evaluates, and aggressively advances logistics opportunities into the implementation stage to deliver growth plans for Tesoro. Develops and cultivates new external business relationships, identifies new revenue streams, and advancements into new markets or geographic areas, all to create lasting value for Tesoro. Works to identify, cultivate and advance new merger and acquisition opportunities which will result in continued EBITDA growth for the company.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Proactively identifies and originates business development opportunities to grow profitability in Logistics. Engages with external parties to develop projects and new business growth which facilitates earnings growth for Tesoro.
  2. Collaborates with internal finance and engineering functions to prepare necessary background and support to justify project or opportunity advancement. Prepares business case and other supporting materials for review and decision by executive management and negotiates with customers or external parties to secure the necessary contractual agreements.
  3. Aggressively advances projects towards funding and final decision within the Logistics organization.
  4. Manages commercial relationships with Tesoro Logistics customers and joint venture partners. Provides support as necessary to the Logistics and Commercial & Value Chain organizations.
  5. Represents Logistics from a commercial standpoint on longer term, cross-functional projects including business case preparation, development of options around scope of projects and handoff for execution by the functions.
  6. Creates action plans with relevant milestones and appropriate measurements. Contributes to and leads negotiations maintaining confidentiality and using sound judgment and discretion. Directs due diligence activities. Works with business executives and General Counsel to prepare requisite legal documents.
  7. Assists in the development of monthly/quarterly revenue plans to EX-COM members.
  8. Represents Tesoro at local, regional and national industry meetings as appropriate.
  9. Maintains a keen understanding of what is happening in each of our markets in terms of supply/demand, economic drivers, and customers and competitors so opportunities are generated from that market knowledge.
  10. Provides subject matter expertise in support of Corporate Strategy and Business Development activities.

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or related technical discipline
  • MBA preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in progressively responsible commercial, projects, business development or mergers and acquisitions positions for upstream, mid-stream or down-stream energy industries required.
