Senior SAP BW Developer Analyst

Provide expert-level development and support for reporting and analytics solutions using SAP Business Warehouse (BW), BW On HANA, and SAP HANA within Business Intelligence (BI) system landscape. Responsible for end-to-end development, implementation, enhancements, and production support for reporting and analytical solutions. Works closely with business users and business subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand business processes, and documents requirements to advise solution architecture and to design reporting and analytical solutions. Coordinates with business users and other IT departments to design, develop, implement, enhance, and maintain complex reporting and analytical solutions on SAP BW (classic and BW On HANA), SAP BPC, and other SAP and non-SAP technologies. Delivers end-to-end reporting and analytics solutions using various SAP technologies such as SAP BW, SAP BW on HANA, SAP HANA modeling, Core Data Services, Smart Integration, and Smart Data Access as well as non-SAP technologies. Develops custom extract-transport-load (ETL) processes, and enhances standard extractors. Builds complex queries using BEX Query designer, and builds and supports complex workbooks using SAP Business Objects Analysis Office. Applies good technical and functional understanding of SAP modules such as FI, CO, SD, MM, and PM as well as oil & gas processes such as Hydrocarbon Supply Chain, Procure-To-Pay, and Plan For Reliability. Adheres to Tesoro’s development standards, guidelines, and best practices, and follows Project Life Cycle methodology. Provides production support for data loads from various source systems to BW on a rotation basis, and resolves end-user problems related to analytics solutions. This includes proactively monitoring data loads, correcting data-load errors and re-running, researching end-user problems, communicating to affected users, and assisting with root-cause analyses (RCAs) for continuous improvement. Develops proto-types and presents them to stakeholders as solution options as well as for purposes of introducing new technologies and development techniques in the relevant environment. Develops test plans and executes testing (unit and integration), and documents results for supported systems. Identifies, researches, and resolves system problems as assigned, and provides recommendations to management, customers, and peers. Develops training materials and support documentation, and provides end-user training within scope of responsibility.


Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Management, or closely related field.


  • 5 years of experience in developing reporting and analytics solutions using SAP Business Intelligence (BI) Suite: SAP BW, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Objects.
  • 5 years (inclusive) of experience in developing and implementing standard and generic master-data extractors, text extractors, transaction-data extractors, and hierarchy extractors.
  • 5 years (inclusive) of experience in designing complex queries in BEX Query Designer and in developing Analysis Office workbooks with multiple data sources using exceptions, conditions, and formatting.
  • 3 years (inclusive) of experience in activating and implementing Business Content for at least five of the following modules: SD, FI, CO, MM, IM, HR, and PP. 3 years (inclusive) of experience designing and maintaining complex Business Objects universes.
