SUMMARY

Leads the development and implementation of corrosion control programs, procedures, and design of corrosion mitigation systems in close cooperation with corporate and regional corrosion control teams and stakeholders. Manages the corrosion control programs and associated key performance indicators, and provides reporting to Sr. Management. Reviews corrosion control data, creates reports detailing the findings, makes recommendations for repairs and provides follow-up. Provides regular summary reports related to all corrosion control activities to the Director Integrity. Develops and manages corrosion control related corporate corrosion control budgets and project execution plans. Provides assistance and oversight with development of regional corrosion control budgets and project execution plans. Provides leadership to the corrosion control Functional Excellence Team (FET).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages and maintains the corrosion control programs, records and diagrams as required by regulations and sound business practice. Leads detailed engineering evaluations to determine practical and cost effective means of protecting assets from corrosion. Manages corrosion control data in the master database.
  • Provides subject matter technical assistance to field operations and maintenance personnel in matters regarding cathodic protection, protective coatings, material selection, corrosion inhibitors & biocides, corrosion data management, construction techniques, and testing procedures for the prevention andcontrol of corrosion.
  • Provides subject matter technical support for regulatory audits. Trains operations and maintenance personnel by raising individual knowledge and awareness of corrosion control (i.e. coatings). Implements industry standards and recommended practices, such as API 651, 652, 653, and NACE SP0169-2013.
  • Manages the development, implementation and maintenance of the Tesoro Logistics standards, practices and procedures related to corrosion control such as coatings and linings, application procedures, and inspection requirement for station piping, tank painting, and internal tank linings.
  • Manages the development, implementation and maintenance of internal corrosion testing procedures such as; bacterial, water, solids analysis, coupon evaluation, & chemical compatibility. Proposes and directs installation of corrosion monitoring facilities.
  • Participates with Engineering, Operations and Maintenance personnel during the design stage of projects regarding material selection and design to minimize the effects of corrosion. Recommends solutions to correct deficiencies identified on existing systems and perform or oversee implementation of agreed upon corrective actions.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in metallurgical engineering, material science, chemical engineering , mechanical engineering or related discipline required.
  • Minimum NACE Certified Cathodic Protection Technologist (CP Level 3) required.
  • NACE Certified Cathodic Protection Specialist (CP Level 4) preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years corrosion engineering experience in energy industry required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with cathodic protection and corrosion control in a leading role required.

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • In-depth knowledge of liquid and gas pipelines and associated regulations and standards related to corrosion control (e.g. PHMSA 49CFR192/195, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, NACE SP0169).
  • Proficient in the use of AI Pipeline Compliance Software.
  • Experience managing budgets for assigned programs and projects.
  • Experience managing direct reports and third party contractors.
  • Experience with leading and contributing in Incident Investigations.
  • Experience with contributing in Due Diligence projects.
