Senior Control System Specialist

SUMMARY

Supports, manages, and maintains the process controls environment offering technical support for both hardware and software controls systems and operational technology. Support includes planning, implementation, and maintenance of various integrated systems and networks. This is a 24/7 environment with the requirement for reliable systems which facilitate safe and efficient operation of the Company’s assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Possess a thorough understanding of the functions of the major components in the Process Control System. Responds to system failures and performs corrective measures as required.
  2. Understands Microsoft operating system and its administrative requirements. Installations of initial release, upgrades, third party software, and new disk drives. Configures file systems, networks, printers, virtual servers, and domain controllers. Creates user accounts and provides user support. Ongoing support of backups, system security, and system performance monitoring.
  3. Evaluate and deploy software applications and antivirus updates and patches to SCADA hardware.
  4. Ability to balance business priorities, information security risks, and best practice security architecture to ensure confidentiality, integrity, reliability, and availability of controls networks.
  5. Works directly with IT to manage the Process Controls Network to Business Network interfaces and applications including firewalls, remote access, and data transfers.
  6. Develops and maintains documentation of existing controls infrastructure including network diagrams, hardware, software applications, and licenses.
  7. Develops and maintains standards, practices, procedures, and policies for Tesoro Logistics controls systems, process controls networks, and telecommunications processes. Troubleshoots communication and remote equipment issues affecting operations.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, information systems or similarly related field of study or 6 or more years of directly related experience required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 6 years of process controls systems administrator experience required. Oil and Gas gathering and processing experience preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS management, WSUS/SCCM, VMWare, SFTP, Cisco Switches, and ICS-CERT. Knowledge of SCADA software including OSI PI and PLC/HMI programs preferred.
  • Ability to consistently use a standard set of related principles, methods, tools, and techniques to manage projects successfully.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to report on work activity.
  • Operations are performed 7 days a week 24 hours a day; therefore, continuous support is required.
