Senior Engineer, Mechanical

Works collaboratively with refining organization to develop, implement and maintain Pressure Relief Devices (PRD) processes incorporating best practices and Industry Guidelines. Develops strategies to manage refinery PRD assets at peak performance, optimize lifetime return on investment and mitigate reliability risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with refinery personnel to resolve PRD daily and chronic reliability and maintenance issues requiring high-level expertise. Considered resident subject matter expert for PRD mechanical issues and responsible for overall PRD health program. Coordinates root cause failure analysis on bad actor PRDs.
  • Works collaboratively with refinery engineering, maintenance and operation staffs to develop and implement PRD best practices across LAR refinery. Improvement areas range from basic practices through implementation of “best in class” practices. Fosters development of abilities to establish and monitor compliance levels. Develops and monitors performance metrics to gauge improvement.
  • Performs gap assessments to identify common PRDs equipment deficiencies and identify value-added areas with highest return on investment and/or risk. Leads improvement efforts. Develops strategy encompassing timelines and milestones, agreed upon deliverables, personnel training, establishment and monitoring of performance metrics. Periodically assesses sites PRD programs and utilization to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Works with Supply Chain Management regarding evaluation/selection of PRD suppliers and PRD maintenance shops. Perform internal and external shop audits to ensure PRD program compliance.
  • Stays abreast of latest industry best practices, technology and equipment design through participation in professional organizations and associations. Provides technical training to refining organization and is responsible for the mechanical skill pool.
  • Responsible for metrics reporting to corporate on PRD compliance. Performs quarterly and annual field audits to ensure PRD preventive maintenance program compliance and address any gaps identified.
  • Reviews new project design for PRD installation and design improvements. Ensure PRD database quality and completeness of PRD preventive maintenance history. Evaluate PRD history and Performance on regular interval and adjust PM intervals accordingly.

Experience and EDUCATION

  • Minimum undergraduate in mechanical engineering required.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ plant-level engineering experience with mechanical systems (fireproofing, refractory, insulation, etc.) in petrochemical industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of API-510, API-576, CAPSTONE software and RBMI process
  • Familiar with ASME VIII and NBIC Code requirements related to PRD.
